Call to Order: Hummel called the meeting to order at 1:36 p.m.
Minutes: No corrections were made to the Minutes of April 11, 2002.
Before critiquing began, Hummel called on G. Hall to make
suggestions on how to correct some common mistakes and problems encountered
thus far. Chairs should save drafts
in the appropriate section draft folders, and include the date in the file
name, leave highlights, and use different colors. They should have drafts completed in time for the Halls to edit
them and to forward them to committee members at least a couple of days before
the meeting.
Critique of Subsections V.2 – V.5: The committee then reviewed all of Garrett’s subsections. Comments and suggestions were around rewording various statements, confirming statements, formatting, and citing references.
While the Steering Committee approved most of the subcommittee’s Recommendations and Suggestions, following are the changes the Committee made.
q Recommendation 5.3 G: “That the College develop clearly stated policies for the allocation and use of information technology resources that are consistent with the purpose and goals of the institution.”
Change “develop” to “adopt”.
q Recommendation 5.3 H: “That the College establish policies to regularly evaluate the policies for allocation and use of information technology resources.”
Change the first reference to “policies” to “a process”.
q Recommendation 5.3 I: “That the College develop written policies which detail the means by which Victoria College’s computer network and confidential records are protected.”
Change “develop written” to “adopt comprehensive”.
“That the College professionally evaluate the security of the College’s computer system.”
Remove this Recommendation but place the statement in the last paragraph of narrative for this section and preface with: “The opportunity presents itself for the College to…”
q Recommendation 5.3 b: “That Victoria College establish clearly stated policies regarding the replacement of information technology resources so that equipment and software remain consistent with current technology.”
Change “policies” to “programs”.
To assist Principal Chairs, Hummel instructed the Halls and Boyd to compile a list of frequently cited works and to place them on the shared drive. The Halls will make a decision on how to cite web pages in the narrative.
Hummel stated that a hyphen, not a dash, is to be used when referring to University of Houston-Victoria.
