Hot Cross Buns – G Major

Hot Cross Buns uses three notes.  In the table below, each column shows the Letter Name for the note, the music notation of the note, and the fingering for that note.

  1. Copy the above pictures of the fingerings and save them to a folder.
    1. Make a folder titled "fingering" on your hard drive.
    2. Place your cursor exactly over the recorder showing the fingering of 'B' and right click it.
    3. My browser gives me some options. Click "save picture as"
    4. Find the folder you made titled "fingering" on your hard drive. Notice the file name is something like "image 012". (It may be a different number.) Click open the folder.
    5. Once you are in the folder, change the file name to "b" since that is the fingering for the pitch named "b" and save.

    6. Repeat steps a - e for the pictures of recorder fingerings for 'A' and 'G'. Be sure you name them appropriately. When you are finished, your folder should look something like what is below.


           
  2. Open the pdf file of Hot Cross Buns. Match the notes on the staff with the ones above to determine the order of the letter names.
  3. Open a new Word document or word processing document. Title the page “Hot Cross Buns in G Major.”
    Also type your name at the top of this page. 

      Type on the next line -- Measure 1:  Type in the letters of the notes in measure 1. (They are BAG)

Measure 1:  Letter Names:  BAG
  1. Place your cursor under the above line. On the menu at the top of the screen, click Insert, Picture, From File.

  2. Find the picture you saved as "B" in the fingerings folder. Double click it to embed it in your WORD document.
  3. Match the second note on the staff with the notation in the table above.  It is 'A'. Place your cursor to the right of the picture for B in your document and follow procedures 4 & 5 to place 'A' in your document.
  4. Match the third note on the staff with the notation in the table above.  It is 'G.' Place your cursor to the right of the picture for B in your document and follow procedures 4 & 5 to place 'A' in your document
  5. Check to be sure the pictures are in the order "BAG". If they are not, drag them into the correct order. (Sometimes the program changes the order.)
  6. Continue the above steps for each measure.  If a note is repeated, place the graphic for it in the measure each time it is played.  (Hint:  Measure 3 repeats several notes!)
